our specialties

We specialize in services treating adults seeking to heal from trauma and anxiety, as well as therapy for couples.

Modalities include:

Deep Brain Reorienting

Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) is a newer trauma treatment approach that works with the brain’s natural, instinctive responses-especially those rooted in the brainstem.  Instead of focusing on specific traumatic memories, it helps people process trauma through bodily sensations, supporting emotional healing and increasing awareness of what’s happening in the body.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR has been used in our practice since 2012.  EMDR therapy is a type of psychotherapy that helps people work through and heal from traumatic experiences.  It’s especially helpful for conditions like PTSD.  During sessions, you revisit painful memories while doing guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, which can help your brain process the trauma and reduce its emotional impact.

Flash Technique

Flash Technique is a neurobiologically-based method that helps reduce the emotional pain of upsetting memories without having to talk about the memory or even think about it directly.  It works by engaging your brain in a positive, light, or neutral task (like recalling a pleasant image or thought), while your therapist guides you through brief "flashes" of attention to the memory-so quick that your mind barely registers them.

Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic therapy is a depth-oriented form of talk therapy that helps individuals gain insight into how unconscious patterns, early life experiences, and relational dynamics influence current thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.  Rooted in psychoanalytic theory, it focuses on increasing self awareness and understanding recurring themes or conflicts-often stemming from childhood-in order to promote emotional growth and lasting change.

Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT)

Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT) is a specialized form of CBT designed to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).  It focuses on how individuals come to believe and trust intrusive thoughts, rather than the content of the thoughts themselves.  I-CBT targets the reasoning process, helping clients recognize and challenge the faulty inferences that lead to obsessional doubt and compulsive behaviors.  The goal is to strengthen trust in the senses and reality, rather than in imagined or feared scenarios.

Couples Counseling

The approach is deeply grounded in the belief that how we navigate conflict can strengthen our relationships and even support individual healing. We use attachment theory, which looks at how our early relationships with caregivers shape the way we connect with others in our current lives. The therapy also draws from interpersonal neurobiology, which uses insights about the brain and nervous system to better understand how we relate and respond to each other. In sessions, you will be guided by Imago therapy techniques, as well as by interventions developed by the research done by The Gottman Institute to help build deeper connection, understanding, and resilience in your relationship.
